22nd April 2009  River Towy.
Out on the Towy last night with jj who I have to thank for taking me.
There were fish running through and jj managed a cracking fresh  7 pounder.

15th April 2009 River Ogmore.
First night out on the sewin and the weather was like a mid summers night! river was quite low.
Fishing a floating line/fast sink poly leader with a dropper and a black/silver ally tube on the point.
No fish moving and not a pull to the flies.
Encouraging to see the smolts flipping down river, going back to sea.
Keep you all informed as the season progresse's.

26th March 2009.River Taff
The brown trout season this month has started very slowly due to a combination of some frost's and snow melt water in the river and the temperature of the river being cold.
Amazingly the olive's seem to hatch what ever the weather and this month I have already witnessed some fine hatches of up wing's.
April is just around the corner and the sewin and salmon season will be upon us.
Looking at my diary my first sewin last season was on April 17th on the river Ogmore a fresh 2 pounder, with another two lost the same evening and it was a very mild night.

Febuary 23/02/09
Sorry for no updates of late-
End of December fished well on the Taff with czech nymph methods and New Zealand style proving popular.
January, Febuary hit and miss with snow water and roadside salt in the river keeping the fish down.

October 19/10/08-South Esk,Had an enjoyable 3 days with Jim Thorogood on a private beat of the South Esk at Brechin, Scotland.
On the first day with the wind blowing very hard the river was full of leaves making fishing impossible with a leaf on the hook every cast.
Over night the wind had dropped away and the fishing was a lot easier, but try as we did we could not tempt the fish to the flies we were using.
Then we stated to use rapalas in the trout colours and landed six fish.
The biggest to Jim a fish of 20Ib was landed and returned, part of his 5 catch haul.
I managed a coloured hen of 9 Ib that was returned but then went on to loose 2 fish one after another.
The one salmon lost would of been a personal best judging by the fight and bend in the rod!!

October 08-Grayling season is in the air and the leaves are dropping.
Private stretch of river available if you wish to fish for the Lady of the river.

September 08-
River still high at times, lost another salmon in heavy water took the lure side on judging by the teeth marks!!
as it came round on the dangle.Another nice fish.
Managed a few nice browns ranging from 1Ib-3Ib all returned and in excellent condition.

August 08-With all the rain of late the river was up and down most of the time. When you thought you had a chance down came the rain.
Managed to make contact with 2 nice salmon but both fish came off in heavy water.

07/07/08-Taff
River was up 2-3ft with all the rain we had, went out for a couple of hours after the river was finning down with a nice colour to it, with the spinning rod and managed a personal best Brown Trout of 5Ib.
It was a hen fish and full in the belly.
Fish was returned.

14/06/08-Taff
Australian client Peter Horden fished the Taff and had an enjoyable days fishing landing a brownie to just under 2Ib with afew out of season grayling and a chub.
Quote.
"Thanks for the introduction to the Taff. Yes i really enjoyed the river.I actually enjoy the tough fishing, it's a real buzz when a you finally land a browny.

08/05/08-Ogmore
Landed 1 sewin of 1 3/4Ib to a worm fished with a centrepin and Avon rod.
River in need of heavy rain to clean out the river.

16/04/08-Fished the Ogmore and it was a warm night which was unusual, the bats were out taking insects off the water and smolts were on their way out to sea.Managed 1 sewin of 2Ib and lost another 2 fish as they came off the hook.

15/02/08 River Taff fished well today.Fish were caught on various goldheads and colours.Colin and Ian caught quite a few fish but the best part of the day was the number of fish caught on the dry fly. Then it was to Fagins for a pint of real ale by the log fire to thaw out, nice.

11/02/08 River Rhymney still carrying a few inches but clear.Fish hard to find but managed six that were in grouped together.Fly was a brown goldhead hares ear.

07/02/08 River Taff.Lovely day out for a couple of hours, sun was shining and river running gin clear.Landed about 20 grayling with a couple of mid 30 cm fish as well.Lost 2 crackers in mid river, using their large dorsal to good effect(came off).Fly grey/white goldhead.

17/12/07 River Ewenny landed this 38 cm grayling and another like it,both fell to a pink grub.Had several smaller fish as well.

21/10/07 Two South Esk salmon both fell to a shrimp fly and a floating line with a slow sink poly leader(both returned)

27/08/07 River Taff salmon taken on a shrimp fly.(returned)

07/08/07 River Ogmore 1 Sewin and 4 brown trout, largest 2Ib.Fishing two flies, hooked into the 2 pounder then the rod bent right over as a much larger fish took the other fly and shot off like a train taking the 2 pounder with it. Lost the larger fish!!

06/07/07 River Ogmore lost a Sewin of nearly 3Ib at my feet to a mepps spinner. Went to the Taff and landed 3 nice brown trout(returned)

25/06/07 River Taff 2 brown trout and 1 fresh Sewin to the spinner.

07/06/07 - River Ogmore. Had a very productive nights fishing-4 Sewin and 3 lovely fin perfect wild brownies.

15/05/07 Two Taff Sewin(seatrout) that fell to a mepps spinner. The larger 3Ib the smaller just over a pound. Also a wild brownie of 2Ib was returned.

07/04/07 Invited to fish at a private trout lake and caught these 2 fin perfect brown trout. The first fish took a Green Damsel nymph(a very silver fish) and the second to the Diawl Bach(a male cock fish). Both fish returned.

12/3/07 Went to the Taff for a couple of hours brown trout fishing with the dry fly. Sun was shining and the river at summer level and gin clear. Fish were rising to an amazing hatch of flies on went a Grey Duster and missed the first rise at the fly. Then landed a Grayling 14" (out of season) unhooked in the river. Another cast and a Grayling of 16.5 " Decided to stop fishing as the river was full of Grayling!!!! Brownies unable to get to the fly. What a day it could of been for dry fly grayling fishing if it had been in season. Roll on June!
