RIVER EWENNY
A small river compared to the Ogmore but don’t be put off by its size, there are some exceptional Grayling in this river as well as Sewin.
The lower reaches of the meandering Ewenny are very pretty with an abundance of bulrushes and willow trees on both banks.
Casting a fly on this stretch of the river is very difficult; it’s a case of flicking or rolling a fly out.
Very little wading is done as most of the fishing is off bank side. The river is very deep in places, so when fishing at night, be careful!
As the river flows, it passes Ogmore Castle and around the stepping stones which have been placed to allow people to cross from one side of the river to the other side for many decades.
Below the stones the river is out in the open and is quite shallow. There are a few places where it is slightly deeper but with no cover available it is definitely night time fishing (unless the river has some colour). Then spinning is an option or with a fly.
The Ewenny and Ogmore then join to become one.
